Barbasol shaving cream review: my Soothing Aloe experience, ingredients, value, and why I would buy it again for $1.

Barbasol shaving cream review: Soothing Aloe for $1

This Barbasol shaving cream review comes down to the price I paid: just $1. After finishing my Soothing Aloe can, I found it useful for everyday shaving, although I preferred the Nivea product I used before. Still, at that price, I would buy it again.

Here, I explain my experience and the formula’s ingredients. In addition, I cover the packaging and the factors that help me decide whether an inexpensive shaving product is worth buying.

Which Barbasol shaving cream did I use?

I used Barbasol Soothing Aloe Thick & Rich Shaving Cream, the brand’s aloe version. Although the label calls it shaving cream, the aerosol releases foam ready to spread.

My photos show a green and navy can with a plastic cap and 10.5 oz, or 298 g, of product. In addition, the label identifies it as made in the USA and highlights a rustproof aluminum bottom.

The “Value Size” message advertises 50% more product than a 7 oz can. Therefore, that statement compares package sizes rather than promising 50% more shaves.

The current official Soothing Aloe page lists a 10 oz can. Consequently, the can in my photos differs slightly in weight from the version currently on the website.

My experience with Barbasol Soothing Aloe

Quality: useful for basic everyday shaving

I did not find the quality particularly good compared with the Nivea product I had used. Nevertheless, Barbasol worked as a basic everyday option.

My opinion reflects the overall experience. Therefore, I cannot blame a particular ingredient or claim that I measured its moisturizing or protective effects.

Longevity: Nivea lasted longer for me

The Nivea product lasted quite a while in my routine. By comparison, I finished this Barbasol can sooner.

However, I did not count the number of uses from either product. I also did not record the amount I applied or the Nivea container size. As a result, this observation describes my personal use rather than a controlled comparison.

Price: the reason I would buy it again

I paid $1 for the can, which was the strongest point of the purchase. For that reason, I can accept a simpler experience when the price is this low.

That amount reflects my purchase rather than a standard retail price. Still, I would buy another can if I found the same offer and needed a basic shaving product.

Barbasol Soothing Aloe ingredients

The following list comes from the brand’s current Soothing Aloe formula. Because the back-label photo does not make the entire list clearly readable, also check the label on the can you purchase.

Ingredients: Water, Stearic Acid, Triethanolamine, Isobutane, Laureth-23, Aloe Barbadensis (Aloe), Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, Propane, Fragrance.

IngredientMain cosmetic function
WaterProvides the formula’s base and acts as a solvent.
Stearic AcidContributes to the creamy base and emulsification.
TriethanolamineHelps adjust pH and form the base with stearic acid.
IsobutaneActs as an aerosol propellant to release the product.
Laureth-23Acts as a surfactant and emulsifier to keep components dispersed.
Aloe Barbadensis (Aloe)Botanical ingredient used for skin conditioning and comfort.
Sodium Lauryl SulfateSurfactant that contributes to cleansing and lather.
PropaneProvides another aerosol propellant.
FragranceGives the product its scent.

These roles explain how the ingredients function in cosmetics. However, they do not establish how much this finished product moisturizes, how long a can lasts, or how every skin type will respond.

Key ingredients and what they do

Aloe: the defining ingredient

Aloe gives this version its identity. Nevertheless, its presence does not guarantee an irritation-free shave.

The National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health reviews research on topical aloe and notes occasional burning, itching, and rashes. Furthermore, research on aloe gel does not automatically establish the same benefits for a shaving foam that stays on the skin briefly before rinsing.

Stearic acid and triethanolamine: the formula’s base

Stearic acid contributes to cosmetic structure and emulsification. Meanwhile, triethanolamine helps adjust pH and form the base with fatty acids.

Together, they serve practical formulation roles even without the marketing appeal of a plant extract. For more information, see the Cosmetics Info entries for stearic acid and triethanolamine, published by the cosmetics industry.

Surfactants and gases: lather and dispensing

Laureth-23 helps emulsify the formula’s components. In addition, sodium lauryl sulfate contributes to cleansing and foam.

Isobutane and propane help push the product out of the aerosol can. Therefore, their main role concerns dispensing rather than moisturizing.

Cosmetics Info provides further information about sodium lauryl sulfate and aerosol propellants.

How to use the shaving foam

For application, follow the brand’s directions:

  1. Wash your face with warm water.
  2. Shake the can and hold it upright.
  3. Press the button to dispense foam and spread it over the shaving area.
  4. Use gentle strokes with a razor in good condition.
  5. Rinse the blade frequently during shaving.

Afterward, rinse the remaining product from your skin. In addition, avoid repeated passes over an area without foam simply to finish faster.

The can contains pressurized contents. Therefore, follow the label’s storage warnings and never puncture or burn the container.

Barbasol or Nivea: which do I prefer?

Based on my experience, I prefer Nivea for quality and longevity. However, Barbasol becomes appealing when I find a very inexpensive offer.

Because my video did not identify the exact Nivea version, an ingredient-by-ingredient comparison would not be useful. Consequently, my preference applies to the products I used rather than every version from either brand.

Barbasol shaving cream review: is it worth buying?

For the $1 I paid, yes: I would buy it again. It did not become my favorite, but it served as a basic shaving product when I needed something affordable.

If price matters most to you, my experience may help you assess the purchase. On the other hand, if quality and longevity matter more, remember that I preferred Nivea.

My conclusion in this Barbasol shaving cream review is straightforward: it was an acceptable purchase at the price I found. Still, I would compare prices before buying another can, because its value changes when that discount disappears.
